Workers Remain Anxious About Their Jobs
According To Decision Analyst's Job Anxiety Index
Arlington, Texas (September 1, 2005) - After declining to a three-year low of
16.6 in June, Decision Analyst's Job Anxiety Index increased to 20.6 in August.
One likely culprit for the increase in job anxiety is the skyrocketing price
for oil and gas.
The Index reflects the percentage of unemployed and underemployed workers, plus
those who are "very worried" about losing their job.
"Looking ahead, much will depend upon where oil prices go from here," said
Jerry W. Thomas, President and CEO of Decision Analyst, a marketing research
and marketing consulting firm. "Further increases in oil prices could
significantly slow economic growth in coming months and trigger layoffs that
would send the Job Anxiety Index higher.
Methodology
The Decision Analyst Job Anxiety Index is based on a monthly Internet survey of
several thousand households balanced by gender, age, and geography, conducted
from the 20th to the 27th of each month. The Job Anxiety Index is immediately
calculated from unemployment, part-time employment, and job security, using a
sophisticated model. The result is a snapshot of current U.S.
employment/anxiety, as seen through the eyes of representative consumers.
Decision Analyst also conducts concurrent surveys in Canada, the U.K., Germany,
France, Italy, Netherlands, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia.
