Confidence In Stock Market Continues To Slip, Survey Shows
Arlington, Texas Confidence in the stock market continued to decline
during September, according to a nationwide survey by Decision Analyst, Inc., a
leading national marketing research firm.
In Decision Analysts September economic survey, 47.3% of respondents said
they expected stocks and mutual funds to increase in value over the next six
months. In March 56.9% expected values to rise, while 47.6% felt that way in
August.
"Our monthly economic surveys show confidence in the stock market has
continued to decline throughout the year, said Jerry W. Thomas,
President/CEO of Decision Analyst, Inc. "Although the decline hasnt
been dramatic, it has been continuous. What this indicates is that a growing
number of Americans do not feel the market can sustain the high values that
have characterized the market this year."
In its September Internet survey, Decision Analyst questioned 3,374 adults. Of
those surveyed, 34.8% said stocks and mutual funds would hold their value over
the next six months, while 17.9% said values would decline.
More women (19.2%) than men (16.6%) said stock and mutual fund values will
decline during the next six months, the survey shows. Among those who believe
values will increase, 53.4% were men and 41.1% women.
